AZIENDA AGRICOLA BATISTINA

The history of Organic Farm Tenuta la Batistina has its origins in the early ‘900 in Suvereto, in the locality that will take the name of the family itself “Molino della Batistina”, when the Batistini Family started the business activity in the field of grain processing, olive groves, orchards and vineyards for personal and local use. In the year 2016, Margherita and later her sister Irene Batistini, entered at La Batistina to continue their journey and follow in the footsteps and passion for winemaking of their parents Elena and Daniele, born and raised in the heart of the Val di Cornia.

The Batistini family, since the days of agriculture for personal use at the beginning of the ‘900s, has always been committed to growing through respect for the environment and the enhancement of its territory as they found it.

Today they have chosen to make this commitment official, converting the land and the cellar into organic ones, taking care of every single row, every single olive tree and everything that our beautiful lad has to offer us.

Located in the Upper Maremma, in the prestigious area of the municipality of Suvereto, the company is immersed in the magical landscape of the precious Tuscan hills where the flavours and recipes of the ancestors meet the ideas of the new generation.

The Batistina simply synthesizes the desire to be that corner of Tuscany forerunner a Dolce Still Novo of the 21st century. The continuous desire for growth through the respect for the environment and enhancement of the important experiences accumulated over the years, this is the by now indispensable glue of our harmonious environment. For this reason every day is a great day to do something important and special, to be shared with anyone who becomes part of our company and to be communicated to those who have not yet discovered us.

All people who are part of the Batistini’s family have made thos commitment through which they are determinated to achieve the many goals thanks to creativity, thought, action and work. Since the early ‘900s the family of the Tenuta la Batistina had been cultivating the vineyards for their own personal and local use; today the new generation has skilfully integrated innovative techniques with traditional production methods, bringing the wines of this land to excellence.

The Batistina’s vineyards extend over 10 hectares, cultivated with different vines, over several areas of the Estate that provide different exposure and climatic characteristics: mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and tarting from the year 2020, after environmental analysis, Vermentino Colle di Donna has also arrived, which pays homage to the women of the company who make up and represent a large part of the team who every day helps to improve quality and conviviality within the Estate.

The wine production in Suvereto is an art that has been handed down for centuries. As early as the 1800s Elisa Bonaparte, farsighted woman, has sensed the great potential of this land. Since the early 1900s, families on the estate have cultivated vineyards for their own personal use and for local use; today the new generation has skillfully integrated innovative techniques with traditional production methods, bringing the wines of this land to excellence.

OUR LAND

10 HECTARES OF RICH SOILS TO CULTIVATE

The 10 hectares of land are cultivated mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot and they are spread over multiple areas of the estate that provide different exposure and climatic characteristics. The vineyards are located 250 meters above the sea level and are exposed to the south-west. In Summer, the climate is hot and dry, while in winter and spring, due to the proximity to the Cornia River, there is a humid microclimate. These climatic factors allow the wine to take on the freshness and elegance that is characteristics of this area. The soil is characterized by sandstone rock and layers of clay and marl, elements that give the wines a unique, complex and structured aroma. This is a highly suitable area for wine cultivation, thanks to the composition of the mineral – rich soils and a Mediterranean-like but cool and breezy climate. In this terroir, the two noble Bordeaux grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, have found the conditions to express themselves at levels of absolute excellence.
